Xaló (Jalon)Xaló is situated 30 minutes inland from the Costa Blanca coastal towns of Calpe, Jávea and Denia. Its situation on the eastern edge of the Marina Alta Mountains gives it a climate that is pleasant all the year round (take a couple of fleeces for the winter months otherwise T-shirts and shorts for the daytime).
By the way, as Xaló is in a Valenciano speaking region we have used the local name throughout. Jalon is the Castillian derivation of its Valenciano name Xálo (pronounced "shallo" and hence the website name!). You may see both or either names on road signs but they are the same place.
How to get to XalóFlying in - The best way is to fly to Alicante or Valencia and hire a vehicle from the airport. We recommend Victoria car hire, who have supplied us with a professional and cheerful service over a number of years. Their attendants are fluent in English and Castillian.
The drive upto Xaló from Alicante takes about an hour and a half and one hour 45 minutes from Valencia. We can supply a welcome pack to greet you on your arrival otherwise we would recommend you visit the Caprabo supermarket in Benissa ,just after your motorway exit, to do a big shop.
We will send you full directions when you book, including how to avoid getting lost when exiting or returning to the airports!!
Of course you may be driving into the Costa Blanca from a location other than the airports and we can supply you with directions to the house appropriate to your journey.
The TownXaló is a small friendly town. There are many traditional fiestas occur to celebrate the saint's days and the battles between the Moors and the Christians. They often include the town's marching bands, fireworks, dancing in the street, food and drink. Visitors are welcome to join in the celebrations.
In 2007 a Mas y Mas (more & more!)supermarket opened. Great as you can now avoid having to go to Calpe or Benissa for a big shop. Remember there are great small shops in Xaló our favourite is the bakery/ cake shop (panaderia), and there is the market and flea market to entertain. Try the Churros, you get a bag of these from mobile stalls, they are made from dough, like doughnuts are, but are long and thin and crispy. An ideal pick me up when shopping.
